This dessert is inspired by the movie Chef and features a molten dark chocolate and orange filling inside a rich cake. The cake is buttery and rich with a delightful ganache at its heart, making it an indulgent treat for any chocolate lover.
Brush the inside of the ramekins with butter then sprinkle in the sugar.
In a bowl melt the dark chocolate using a double boiler.
Once the chocolate has melted remove it from the double boiler and slowly pour in the cream and mix until combined.
Place chocolate mixture in freezer for 1 hour to firm up.
Using the double boiler again, melt semi sweet chocolate and butter until smooth. Set aside.
In a separate bowl whisk eggs and brown sugar until light and frothy.
Stir in salt, vanilla extract and orange zest.
Working in batches, slowly add the melted chocolate into the egg mixture, whisk until combined.
Add flour and stir to combine.
Fill the ramekins halfway with the cake mixture.
Remove the ganache from the freezer and drop 2 tablespoons into the center of the cake mixture.
Fill the rest of the ramekin with the remaining cake batter.
Bake the cake for 11 minutes at 425°F.
Once baked run a knife around the edge of the cake to help it release from the ramekin.
Place a plate on top of the ramekin and flip, so that the ramekin is on top.
Give the ramekin a little shake and the cake should fall right out.
Serve with ice cream or whipped cream.
